Women’s 17 EHF EURO Qualification throws off in Europe

Russia and Czech Republic are already there, and on Friday another 29 teams embark on their quest to qualify for the Women’s 17 EHF EURO 2015 in FYR Macedonia.

After the qualification had started last weekend on Faroe Islands – with the aforementioned Russia and Czech Republic becoming the two eventually successful teams – a further eight tournaments are being played from Friday to Sunday (20 to 22 March) across Europe.

A live ticker is available for all matches.

This is the first international tournament and appearance on this level for these young national teams, but if past results are anything to go by, for example Sweden, winners of the Women’s 17 EHF EURO 2013, should have no problems qualifying from Group 6.

The same holds true for Denmark, bronze medallists two years ago, who face France, Serbia and Switzerland in Group 1.

Remarkable is the debut of a Kosovo national team that makes its first appearance on this level after Kosovo was granted full EHF membership at the EHF Congress in September 2014.

They have been draw to Group 6 alongside Sweden, Slovakia and Austria.

From the groups with four teams the two top ranked teams qualify for the final tournament. From Group 7 to 9, in which there are only three teams each, only the top ranked nation qualifies for the 16-nation final tournament.

Russia, Czech Republic as well as FYR Macedonia as tournament hosts are already qualified.

The Women’s 17 EHF EURO 2015 in FYR Macedonia is played from 13 to 23 August 2015. All matches will take place in the Macedonian capital Skopje.
