Boldsen out of deciding matches
KIF Kolding will have to play both qualification matches for the EHF Cup Group Phase without one of their most experienced players.
Playmaker and defence specialist Joachim Boldsen will be missing both matches against Permskie Medvedi in the third qualification round due to an ankle injury.
The 34 year old former Denmark international hurt his right foot in the top match against Bjerringbro-Silkeborg in the Danish league last week, and the injury has turned out to be so serious that the former Barcelona and Flensburg player is facing a break of another two to three weeks.
“The ligaments in my right foot are frayed, and I cannot even run yet, only train on a bicycle. It is unfortunate, as I would really like to play these matches. Now, however, it is a matter of becoming fit again, so that I can get back on the court,” Joachim Boldsen told sporten.dk.
Kolding´s head coach Peter Bredsdorff-Larsen regrets to have to play the deciding play-off matches without Boldsen.
“Boldsen has this huge international experience and qualities at the highest level in the defence, so obviously he is a player we would very much have liked to have with us in Russia. That being said, though, we have a team with many players who can take their part in the defence. We usually play with 10 or 11 defensive players, so we are used to covering for Joachim,” Peter Bredsdorff-Larsen said.
Kolding is playing the first match against Permskie Medvedi away on Sunday, with the second leg in Kolding a week later.
