Defending trophy winners, finalists and Spanish champions - all in action during the second weekend.
Women´s EHF Cup Last 16, second leg preview
After the double winners of the Women´s EHF Cup from FC Midtjylland secured their quarter-final ticket already last weekend, seven more clubs will follow them over Saturday and Sunday (9/10 February).
The defending holders of the EHF Cup Lada Togliatti are on the brink of elimination after the first leg in Holstebro, but the five-goal deficit after their defeat on the court of Team Tvis Holstebro could mean nothing for the Russian side well-rehearsed in the European Cup competitions.
Metz Handball, another team with huge experiences from the continental club competitions will face a real danger after the French participants won the first leg at home against KGHM Metraco Zaglebie Lubin only by one goal.
The second French team, HAC Handball is in even worse situation as they returned from the first leg in Bergen, Norway with a ten-goal setback. The reigning Challenge Cup winners can only hope that the home stands will push them for the big chase and a big miracle.
The emerging giant of the next season ŽRK Vardar SCBT can pride themselves with several star signings in the past days, but after the Macedonian team won over HC "Kuban" Krasnodar only by two goals, they can take nothing for granted before their trip to Russia.
Three more pairings will get in the Last 16 action only over this weekend as three teams will enjoy the support of their crowds twice.
The third Russian club on the starting grid, Astrakhanochka will host both matches against Serbia´s WHC Radnički Kragujevac, the last season EHF Cup finalists HC Zalau will play at home both legs against Portugal´s Juve Lis and the reigning Spanish champions Grupo Asfi Itxako Navarra will travel to Turkish capital to face Cankaya Belediyesi Anka Spor Kulübü.
