Fram and Dudelange book their place in the next round

ROUND REPORT: Four first leg games and two double headers mark the first weekend of action in the Women’s EHF Cup

Fram and Dudelange book their place in the next round

The first two teams made their way to the Women's EHF Cup third round on Sunday as both Fram Reykjavík and HB Dudelange recorded two victories on home court and clinched their berths in the next stage.

Reykjavík easily overcome the visitors from Olympia HC London, as top scorers Asta Birna Gunnarsdottir and Ragnheidur Juliusdottir contributed with 10 goals each to 38:13 and 20:14 victories. Fram will face Köfem Sport Club from Hungary in Round 3. The first leg is scheduled for 9/10 November and the second leg will follow one week later.

Both Barbara Hajduk and Nora Lemoussi scored ten goals in two home matches of Dudelange against AC Loux Patras. The Luxembourgish side had to put more effort than Fram, but still they won 46:35 (24:16 and 22:19) on aggregate. The Spanish runners-up Elche CF Mustang await Dudelange in the next round.

All home teams in other four pairings managed to win, but the final outcome is difficult to estimate as the biggest margin was five goals recorded by DHK Baník Most and HC Karpaty Uzhorod.

The reigning Challenge Cup winners from the Czech Republic beat Norway's Levanger HK 27:22 in front of the capacity crowd od 1,050. "I am satisfied with our approach and determination, but I am a bit sorry for our weak execution of power-play chances. We could have won with a higher margin. However, we have fullfilled our goal what was a hopeful result for the second leg in Norway," the Most coach Dušan Poloz said for the Czech TV after the match.

The Ukrainian participant built the same five-goal cushion versus HC Žalgiris Kaunas (28:23). The Belarusian outfit HC Gomel beat ADA Colegio Joao de Barros from Portugal only by four goals and Bulgarian champions HSC Etar-64 Veliko Tarnovo put on board only their first victory in the European Cup in five years as they beat AC PAOK 24:22.

Four more pairings will join the Round 2 action only over the next weekend.
