Exciting matches coming up

After Fram Reykjavik from Iceland and Dudelange from Luxembourg qualified for Round 3 already last weekend, eight further teams will be following them this weekend, and in fact everything is still open in the eight ties which remain to be decided.

In four of them, both legs will be played this weekend, and in all the four ties, where the second leg is still due to be played, it is more or less difficult to predict a favourite for the aggregate win.

HC Karpaty and Banik Most have the clearest leads, both being five goals up against HC Zalgiris Kaunas and Levanger HK.

Karpaty won the first leg at home against Zalgiris Kaunas 28:23, and the question is, of course, if that will be enough for the Ukrainians when the visit Lithunania's second largest city for the return match Sunday afternoon. The winner of the tie can look forward to meeting the new Danish team Kobenhavn Handbold in the next round.

Banik Most, the Challenge Cup winners from last season also had the home advantage when defeating Levanger HK 27:22, but the Black Angels from the Czech Republic may have to fight hard for that lead away against a highly determined Norwegian team who expect to have an enthusiastic crowd supporting them.

Romanian H. C. Zalau, semi-finalists in the tournament last season, will be waiting for the winner in Round 3.

Belarusian HC Gomel´s lead is one goal smaller before travelling to Portugal for the second match against ADA Colegio Joao de Barros Saturday. Gomel won 24:20 at home, so the Portuguese are definitely not out of the race either.

The smallest distance is found in the tie between HSC Etar-64 Veliko Tarnovo and AC PAOK. Being down only by two, 24:22 after the first leg in Bulgaria, PAOK have a good chance to catch up with Tarnovo at home.
