DRAW REVIEW: 2012 winners Lada will play against Kobenhavn, while 2008 trophy holders Dinamo Volgograd face Team Esbjerg in the Women's EHF Cup Quarter-finals
Two Russian-Danish clashes in the quarter-finals
Denmark is the next destination for both former Russian winners of the Women's EHF Cup after Tuesday's draw determined not only all four quarter-finals pairings but also the semi-final fixtures.
While the 2012 winners Lada will play against Kobenhavn Handbold, the 2008 trophy holders Dinamo Volgograd will face Team Esbjerg.
The draw took place at the EHF Office in Vienna and was carried out by the EHF Secretary General Michael Wiederer together with Luc Smeyers, the president of the European Police Sport Union.
"We have been improving a lot lately, so I would say that no matter which opponent we got, we would have good chance to proceed.
"Obviously, a long trip to Volgograd is not exactly what we need right now, with a tight programme in the domestic league also, but that is the way things are, so we deal with that, too," Susanne Kastrup Forslund, left wing of Esbjerg commented on the draw for eurohandball.com.
"Volgograd have a long history in Europe, but do not know how strong they are at the moment – we will have to take a look at them when we get that far," she added.
The third Russian team in the top eight of this competition, Astrakhanochka, will meet with the 2005 Challenge Cup winners from Bayer Leverkusen.
"It’s Russia again, where we have been quite often in the previous years. We have good memories about Astrachan, as we eliminated them two years ago in the Last 16 by a victory and a draw, both on their ground.
"It is important to have the second leg on home ground. We want to represent German women’s handball in a successful way and hope that our journey will continue after the quarter-finals," Heike Ahlgrimm, coach of Bayer Leverkusen, said.
The third former winner of the EHF Cup, who is still in the race for this season's trophy, Fehérvár KC will lock horns with Romania's U Jolidon Cluj in the quarter-final.
The first quarter-final leg is scheduled for 1/2 March, the second leg will follow one week later (8/9 March).
The first leg matches of the semi-finals will be played on 5/6 April and the second leg on 12/13 April.
