Minsk trying their luck in the Cup Winners Cup again
For the second year in succession, BNTU-BelAZ Minsk Region failed to qualify for the group matches of the Women's EHF Champions League.
Just like last season, the Belarusian champions had to leave the competition after the qualification tournament.
So, once again they are trying their luck in the Cup Winners' Cup, in which they reached Round 3 last season. Round 3 is exactly what they women from Minsk will reach again, if they overcome ACME-Zalgiris in the tie which starts with the first leg in Sport Palace RCOR in Minsk Sunday afternoon.
For Zalgiris from Kaunas in Lithuania, reaching the third round of the Cup Winners' Cup would be their finest achievement in Europe so far.
Both teams know their next opponent, if they make to the third round, as the winner of this tie will meet the German Bundesliga team HSG Blomberg-Lippe.
The match between Minsk and Zalgiris is the only match in the Cup Winners' Cup this weekend, and the tie is one out of only two ties in the tournament in this round.
The other one is going to be carried out as a double header next weekend between Norwegian Byasen Trondheim and WHC Danilovgrad from Montenegro.
