SEMI-FINAL REVIEW: TuS Metzingen left no doubt in their semi-final but Dunaujvaros lost a big lead and only qualified through away goals
Dunujvaros and Metzingen meet in EHF Cup Final
Dunaujvarosi Kohasz Kezilabda Akademia of Hungary and TuS Metzingen of Germany meet in this season’s Women’s EHF Cup Final. The two teams, however, qualified in quite different ways.
TuS Metzingen (GER) vs ASC Corona Brasov (ROU) 30:23 (56:45 on agg.)
TuS Metzingen celebrate their first season in Europe ever by playing the EHF Cup Final in May.
Having won the first leg away against ASC Corona 2010 Brasov 26:22, the top team from the German Bundesliga left no doubt in the return match at home this weekend.
In front of 2,600 spectators in the Paul Horn Arena of Tübingen, Metzingen won 30:23 after leading 14:12 at half-time.
In the second half, the home team even got nine goals ahead before finally winning by seven.
The experienced centre back Anna Loerper scored nine goals for Metzingen, the same number as left back Florina Cristina Zamfir netted for Brasov.
Dunaujvarosi Kohasz Kezilabda Akademia (HUN) vs Randers HK (DEN) 23:25 (52:52 on agg., DKKA advance on away goals)
Metzingen’s opponents in the final are Dunaujvarosi Kohasz Kezilabda Akademia after the Hungarian team only just got through their semi-final against Randers HK.
For large parts of the return match, the Hungarian side seemed to be cruising towards the final.
Already in the first half the home team, enjoying a 29:27 lead from the first leg, went eight goals up. They led 16:10 at half time as the rest of the match seemed a formality.
Apparently, they were thinking the same after extending their lead to 19:11 early in the second half. Then the visitors started to catch up.
Randers first equalized (22:22) before actually going two goals ahead (25:23) almost at the same time as the final buzzer.
It was not enough for the Danish team as their opponents had scored 29 goals in the first match in Randers, so the relieved Hungarian team could celebrate their final berth based on away goals.
