Camilla Mikkelsen returns home

Women’s Champions League winners Viborg HK have managed to fill out the gap of the back-up to Romanian international Christina Varzaru on the right wing. The gap was left by Hungarian Monika Kovacsicz who left the Danish club to FTC Budapest in her native country next season.

Her successor will be only 19 year old Camilla Mikkelsen – a player who was actually born in Viborg and played all her youth in Viborg HK. This season, however, she has played for league colleagues SK Århus. The talented winger, who has played 40 matches for the Danish U18 and U20 national team, is returning to the club of her childhood on a two year contract.

Expecting to learn a lot

"I do not expect to be able to push Christina Varzaru out of the starting line-up, as she is the best right winger in the world. But I am looking forward to learning a lot from her, and hopefully also the challenge her a bit," Camilla Mikkelsen said, as her contract with Viborg was announced.

"To me Viborg HK has always been a great club with a fantastic handball culture. When I left last year in order to try something new, it was still with the dream of returning one day. The chance came already this year, and this is a tremendous opportunity for me," she added.

"All the way we wanted Camilla for the position on the right wing, so I am really happy that we succeeded in getting her as supplementary player to Cristina Varzaru," Viborg´s head coach Jakob Vestergaard said and added: "Camilla is very good on the fast-breaks, and her defensive work is also fine. She just needs to work on the efficiency and coolness of her shots."
