Gardent positive about Celje game
The French coach is looking forward to the game with optimism. He wants to know what Chambery can do against a top club.
The Zlatorog hall of Celje is one of the most difficult courts of European handball. The old Hall Golovec and the currently used Zlatorog have always been difficult targets for even the top clubs of the CL. Only four teams have beaten Celje in Slovenia in the last 47 games. This will be the task of Chambery in Group A.
Philippe Gardent, Chambery coach, does not care about the statistics:
“If we look at the stats, we have no chance at all. But we will go to Slovenia to win even if we know that it will be very difficult. There two points are very important in Celje, because we will keep them in the next round”.
The French coach is excited. The game in Celje gives him the opportunity to check what his team is able to do away to a big club.
“We will know from the game whether we are ready to play under big pressure against strong opponents. It will be very interesting because we did not experience this situation yet. It will be very useful to prepare us for the upcoming phase of the competition”.
Metz going for second position
The victory in Slovenia against Krim allowed the French Metz to dream about qualification to the Main Round. Viborg seem to be unbeatable for the French club, but the objective is to take the second place of the group. Next game against German Nürnberg will be decisive for both clubs.
The most experienced French player, Isabelle Wendling, does not want to lay back after the victory in Ljubljana:
“The second place is one step closer, but now we have to keep up the concentration level. The next match against Nürnberg in Metz will be decisive for us. We have the same number of points as the Slovenians, but our goal difference general is worse. We have beaten them because we had a great defence that let us score easy fast breaks”.
The young French international, Camile Ayglon, is also determined to take the points against Nürnberg.
“We had to forget the defeat against Viborg and we made improvement respect to that game. Attention: the German team lost against Viborg by only nine goals. Not everything is done yet”.
