SELECT SPORT announced as new official ball supplier

The stars of Europe’s top handball competitions will be playing with a new official ball from the start of the 2016/17 season following the signing of a four-year agreement by the EHF and EHF Marketing GmbH with SELECT SPORT.

The deal, which begins on 1 July 2016, will see the Danish company providing the official match ball for all EHF competitions including the VELUX EHF Champions League, WOMEN’S EHF Champions League, Men’s and Women’s EHF Cup as well as the EHF’s flagship national team competition, the EHF European Championships.

A new and exclusive ball design will be presented for each competition on an annual basis for the duration of the contract. SELECT will offer the official match ball and replica versions for sale via leading sports retailers worldwide.

The EHF President, Jean Brihault, said: “SELECT has a long history in handball and a real passion for the sport, which is reflected in the quality of its products. This new partnership will offer not only the best possible playing conditions in top competitions but also the opportunity in the coming years for further product development and innovation on the handball market.”

SELECT CEO Peter Knap added: “At SELECT we have been developing balls for more than 65 years so we have a solid head start when it comes to ensuring quality in new solutions. SELECT’s 32-panel handball is still the best in terms of bounce, balance and perfect grip. At SELECT we have a deep understanding of the very nature of the sport which enables us to create the best professional solutions. We are thrilled with the agreement and look forward to our cooperation with the EHF.”

SELECT – The Players’ Choice

The new SELECT match ball is made of extremely hardwearing synthetic leather material. A patented zero-wing bladder inside the ball ensures optimal roundness and specially developed foam gives the EHF match ball an extremely soft feel and great fit in the hand. The ball is light and lively, but above all its constant balance ensures that there are no random bounces. In the best tradition of SELECT, all match balls are all hand-sewn.

Eigil Nielsen, star goalkeeper of the Danish national football team, founded SELECT in 1947. Under Nielsen’s management, SELECT became a trailblazer by producing many of the ball industry’s new creations, such as the first football without laces, the first ball with 32 panels and the introduction of synthetic leather.

Most of the world’s football and handball tournaments are still played today with balls made by Eigil Nielsen’s principle of 32 panels. Most balls produced all over the world are based on his innovative thinking.

SELECT sells more than 3.5 million balls a year as well as a very large portfolio of sporting articles in 50 countries all over the world. SELECT has been the official ball sponsor of the Danish national handball team for more than 50 years and supplies many of Europe’s leading European clubs and leagues.
