EHF Referee Seminar 2011

The 2011 Referee Seminar, which also served as preparation for the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia, took place from 2 to 4 September 2011 in Vienna, Austria.

The seminar was chaired by the EHF Executive Committee Member and EHF CC Chairman Jan Tuik with programme and external lecturer coordination carried out by EHF CAN Coordinator Helmut Höritsch.

Referee qualification mode

Sandor Andorka, EHF Competitions Commission Member since 2002, refeering Expert and former Top IHF and EHF referee explained the referee qualification mode for the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia. Only 12 of those 15 participating referee couples are going to officiate in Serbia.

Physical preparation

Prof. Hans Holdhaus, director of the Institute for Sportsmedicine and Science and IOC Lecturer presented the adequate physical preparation and introduced a web coaching system, with functionalities enabling the referees to communicate with a coach, who will prepare their individual training schedules.

Also a physical test for referees, a shuttle run with lactate measuring, was carried out. Based on the collected data of the physical test, the referees will receive their training schedule in the web coaching system.

Match scenario preparation

The referees were also lectured on the topics "Goal-setting for referees" (+Discussion), and "Dead ball officiating" by Icelandic Johann Ingi Gunnarsson, a psychologist and former top coach in the German Bundesliga / ISL), and the topic "Reading the game - coaches’ expectations from referees" by Marko Sibila, EHF Lecturer and head of the Slovenian Handball Trainer Association since 1995.

Feature courses

Furthermore rule interpretation courses, video analysis, panel discussions and workshops on experience sharing, expectations, improvements or cooperation with EHF Delegates were carried out to advance the output at the EHF EURO 2012 in Serbia.

The Men’s EHF EURO 2012 will take place in Serbia from 15 to 29 January 2012. Further information, including the online ticket shop can be found on the official website.

The 12 couples nominated for the event will be announced this autumn.
