Fresh faces for newcomers
Danish league runners-up, KIF Kolding København, have begun the task of bolstering their ranks ahead of the new season.
Quarter-finalists in last season’s EHF Cup, the ambitious team was created from the ashes of the AG Kobenhavn project at the start of the 2012/13 season.
KIF have qualified for the VELUX EHF Champions League for the first time thanks to second place in the Danish league.
Coach Kronborg returns
Henrik Kronborg, assistant coach in KIF Kolding in the 2011/12 season, will take the helm replacing Peter Bredsdorff-Larsen who was sacked on 3 June after a disappointing end to the season.
His assistant will be former KIF Kolding and Bosnian international Bilal Súman who was head coach with women’s side KIF Vejen this season.
Henrik Kronborg, said: “This is an entirely different situation, compared to the last time I was in KIF. This is an extremely interesting project, in which I see a lot of potential.
"The project has come further this past year, than I and many others had expected.“
High profile Bundesliga signing
Former Danish international Torsten Laen is to join the team from German Bundesliga club Füchse Berlin.
The 33-year-old line player has signed a three year contract and will bring with him much needed Champions League experience, having won two Champions League titles with Ciudad Real reached the quarter-finals last season.
Laen commented: “I feel that this is the right time to return to the Danish league which has reached a level that can be compared with the best leagues in Europe.
"At the same, choosing KIF Kolding København was not all that difficult, as I still have an ambition to play in the top, nationally and in the Champions League."
More new players to come?
Danish U21 international Lasse Andersson will also be joining from Danish side TMW Ringsted.
“By adding these two players to our squad, we see the squad as almost complete for the coming season,” KIF Kolding København´s Managing Director Jens Boesen said, also intimated that there could be reinforcements to come.
KIF will however say goodbye to Frederik Børm, who is leaving for EHF Cup participants Skjern Håndbold.
