Top European performances at Women’s Junior World Championship

29 July 2010 – the day on which the 2010 Men’s 20 European Championship in Bratislava, Slovakia, begins – the final round of the 2010 Women’s 20 World Championship throws off with placement matches and the two long expected semi-finals.

The European teams have so far had a very successful tournament, with 11 of the top 13 nations coming from Europe.

In the first semi-final host nation South Korea will take on Russia, who started with a defeat in their first game against Montenegro. But seven straight victories over Mexico, Hong Kong, Angola, Sweden, Hungary, Spain and Brazil have put them in a good position to reach the final.

In the second semi-final we find Montenegro, which reaches a semi-final of a Women’s Junior World Championship for the first time in history. Also, the Balkan team had seven victories in eight games (Russia, Sweden, Mexico, Hong Kong, Angola and Hungary), they only lost to Spain with one goal difference in the Main Round.

The Montenegrin team will face Norway who after seven victories over Tunisia, Serbia, Greenland, Germany, France, Netherlands and Croatia received their first tournament loss against South Korea as they were already qualified for the semi-final.

In the Play-Off matches for 5th to the 12th place Brazil is the only Non-European country.
