2011 Men's World Championship Qualification Round Draw

The 2011 Men's World Championship (IHF event) will take place in Sweden. European national teams will have a total of 14 places at the Final Tournament. The draw for the European Qualification Round will be carried out on Thursday, 6 August in the EHF Headquarters, Vienna.

AUT, CRO, CZE, DEN, ESP, GER, HUN, ISL, NOR, POL, RUS, SLO, SRB, UKR (11 out of these 14)
 
The three best ranked teams at the EHF EURO 2010 in Austria (except FRA and SWE) qualify directly for the final tournament in Sweden. Therefore a total of 11 teams from the EHF EURO 2010 will qualify directly for the play off matches.

The draw for the Play-off will take place on 31 January in Vienna.

Qualification round

The qualification round will be played in groups in the format of tournaments among the following national teams:
BEL, BIH, BLR, BUL, CYP, EST, FAR, FIN, GBR, GRE, ISR, ITA, LAT, LTU, LUX, MKD, MNE, NED, POR, ROU, SUI, SVK, TUR (23 in total)

The qualification matches will be played in 5 groups of 3 teams and 2 groups of 4 teams. The ranking list is based on the results of the 2010 EHF EURO Qualification. The winner of each group qualifies for the play-off matches, which will be played on 12/13 June and 19/20 June 2010.

 7 Teams in pot 1 (place 3 in 2010 EHF EURO Qualification): BIH, BLR, MKD, MNE, NED, POR, SVK
 7 Teams in pot 2 (place 4 in 2010 EHF EURO Qualification): EST, GRE, ISR, LAT, LTU, ROU, SUI
 7 Teams in pot 3 (place 5 in 2010 EHF EURO Qualification): BEL, BUL, CYP, FIN, ITA, LUX, TUR
 2 Teams in pot 4 (place 6 in 2010 EHF EURO Quali. + GBR):    FAR, GBR

Procedure:
1. Seven teams of pot 1 are drawn to row 1, groups 1-7
2. Seven teams of pot 2 are drawn to row 2, groups 1-7
3. Seven teams of pot 3 are drawn to row 3, groups 1-7
4. Two teams of pot 4 are drawn to row 4, groups 1-2
5. Draw of the order of the right to organise a tournament

Playing dates for the qualification round:

The qualification Europe for the 2011 Men’s World Championship will basically be played in form of tournaments within one week at one venue during the week of 11 to 17 January 2010.

If technically possible, it is allowed, however, to play the qualification over three weeks in home and away matches, if all teams in the group agree to this. If this is the case, the following three periods are available for these matches:

First and second leg: 28 October to 1 November 2009
Third and forth leg: 6 to 10 January 2010
Fifth and sixth leg: 13 to 17 January 2010
