YAC event schedule

In October 2003, the European Handball Federation decided to elevate their junior championships. Since then these events are referred to as Younger Age Category (YAC) events.

These events have high standards and requirements in order to create tournaments very similar to the adult EHF EURO events, which should allow young talents to easily make the jump to top class handball.

YAC European Championships are carried out in four classes:

  • Women’s 17
  • Women’s 19
  • Men’s 18
  • Men’s 20

Both men’s events are carried out in even years and both women’s events in the odd years.

Over the next three years six YAC European Championships are planned to take place. The major YAC events are as follows:

Women’s 17 European Championship 2011 in the Czech Republic

The event for players born 1994 or younger was awarded to the federation of the Czech Republic. The event is planned to take place in two arenas in the south-east of the country – Nová Hala Vodova in Brno and Sportovní Hala Euronics in Zlín. The playing date for the final tournament is 23 June to 03 July 2011.

Women’s 19 European Championship 2011 in the Netherlands

The event for players born 1992 or younger was awarded to the federation of the Netherlands. The event is planned to take place in five arenas over the country – IISPA in Almelo, Sporthal Valkenhuizen in Arnhem, Sportcentrum in Leek, MECC in Maastricht and Topsportcentrum in Rotterdam. The playing date for the final tournament is 04 to 14 August 2011.

Men’s 20 European Championship 2012 in Turkey

The event for players born 1992 or younger was awarded to the federation of Turkey. The event is planned to take place in two arenas in the capitol Ankara – Ankara Arena and THF Handball Complex. The playing date for the final tournament is 05 to 15 July 2012.

Men’s 18 European Championship 2012 in Austria

The event for players born 1994 or younger was awarded to the federation of Austria. The event is planned to take place in two arenas in the west of the country – Arena Rieden Vorkloster in Bregenz and Sporthalle am See in Hard. The playing date for the final tournament is 12 to 22 July 2012.

Women’s 17 European Championship 2013 in Poland

The event for players born 1996 or younger was awarded to the federation of Poland. The event is planned to take place in two arenas along the country’s north shore – Jędrzej Śniadecki Academy of Physical Education (AWFiS) in Gdańsk and the Olympic Preparation Centre in Cetniewo. The playing date for the final tournament is 15 to 25 August 2013.

Women’s 19 European Championship 2013 in Denmark

The event for players born 1994 or younger was awarded to the federation of Denmark. The event is planned to take place in two arenas in the south of the country – Koldinghallerne in Kolding and Idraetscenter in Haderslev. The playing date for the final tournament is 01 to 11 August 2013.
