EHF EURO 2014 draw takes place in Copenhagen

The draw for Phase 2 of the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 is to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark on Friday 20 April at 18.00 hrs.

The event will be streamed live on the event’s newly launched official website at www.ehf-euro.com/DEN2014/

A record number of 39 nations have registered for the EHF’s flagship national team competition, the final round of which will take place in Denmark from 12 to 26 January 2014.

The live streamed coverage will include the draw itself followed by live interviews and reactions.

Draw procedures

28 teams will play in seven groups of four with the top two teams and the best ranked third team qualifying for the final tournament. 15 places are available, with Denmark already qualified as host.

The participating teams are: Austria (AUT), Bosnia Herzegovina (BIH), Belarus (BLR), Croatia (CRO), Czech Republic (CZE), Spain (ESP), France (FRA), Germany (GER), Hungary (HUN), Iceland (ISL), Lithuania (LTU), FYR Macedonia (MKD), Montenegro (MNE), Netherlands (NED), Norway (NOR), Poland (POL), Portugal (POR), Russia (RUS), Slovenia (SLO), Serbia (SRB), Slovakia (SVK), Sweden (SWE).

They will be completed by the four winners and the two best ranked second places of the four qualification tournaments (phase 1).

The teams are divided into four pots according to the EHF Men’s National Team Ranking:

Pot 1: CRO, FRA, ESP, ISL, POL, SRB, GER
Pot 2: HUN, NOR, SWE, SLO, MKD, CZE, AUT
Pot 3: RUS, SVK, POR, LTU, MNE, NED, BLR
Pot 4: BIH, winner of qualification 1 – group A, winner of qualification 1 – group B, winner of
qualification 1 – group C, winner of qualification 1 – group D, best 2nd ranked place and 2nd
best ranked 2nd place qualification 1

The draw will be made as follows:

Step 1: 7 teams of pot 4 to row 4
Step 2: 7 teams of pot 3 to row 3
Step 3: 7 teams of pot 2 to row 2
Step 4: 7 teams of pot 1 to row 1
