Wildcard teams confirmed

At its meeting in Monaco on Thursday 21 June 2012, the EHF Executive confirmed the four men’s teams to play in the competition’s Wildcard tournament.

The winner of the two-day tournament on 8/9 September will qualify directly for the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase.

The following teams have been accepted into the tournament:

Bjerringbro-Silkeborg, DEN (ranked second in the Danish league)
Saint-Raphael Var Handball, FRA (ranked third in the French league)

HSV Hamburg, GER (ranked fourth in the German league)

Orlen Wisla Plock, POL (ranked second in the Polish league)


The playing schedule will see the following two semi-final matches on Saturday, 8 September 2012, based on rankings:

HSV Hamburg (GER) versus Orlen Wisla Plock (POL)
St. Raphael Var Handball (FRA) versus Bjerringbro-Silkeborg (DEN)

RK Cimos Koper (SLO) were not accepted into the Wildcard tournament.

A decision on the organiser of the Wildcard event will be decided in a separate procedure.

The fourth placed team in the Wildcard tournament will qualify for the EHF Cup second round of qualification, the second and third placed teams will qualify for the third round of the new competition.

The draw for the VELUX EHF Champions League Group Phase and Women’s EHF Champions League Group Matches will take place at the headquarters of adidas, in Herzogenaurach, Germany on Friday, 6 July 2012.
